massive battery powers airport

A power revolution has quietly transformed Kuala Lumpur International Airport‘s energy infrastructure. EVE Energy‘s massive “Mr Big” battery system now hums away behind the scenes, ensuring Malaysia’s busiest airport never goes dark. It’s a beast of a system. Not your grandfather’s backup generator.

The heart of this setup is EVE’s upgraded Mr Big cells, now boasting a whopping 628Ah capacity—up from the previous 560Ah. Each cell packs 2.009kWh of energy and can survive more than 12,000 cycles. That’s some serious staying power. The cells operate at 3.2V and employ third-generation high-speed stacking technology. Fancy stuff.

EVE’s mighty Mr Big cells deliver a staggering 628Ah capacity with 12,000+ cycles of industrial-grade staying power.

What’s really impressive is the Mr Giant system housing these cells. Each standard 20-foot container delivers 5MWh of energy capacity. That’s enough juice to power thousands of homes—or one very busy airport. The nominal power hits 5015kWh with a battery voltage range between 1164.8V and 1497.6V. And boy, is it heavy—45 tons of power-packed goodness.

These aren’t just big batteries; they’re smart ones too. The system achieves 96% energy efficiency at the cell level and 95-95.5% system-wide. EVE’s 3T technology keeps temperature differences to just 1.5°C. Cool under pressure, literally. The LF560K was designed specifically for large-scale energy storage applications, making it ideal for KLIA’s extensive power needs. The system’s ultra-thin 14μm separators provide exceptional safety features with thermal shutdown capabilities.

The cost savings are nothing to sneeze at. Compared to 314Ah solutions, Mr Big cuts battery cells, welding spots, and cables by half. That translates to 30% lifecycle cost savings. More bang for your buck. Or ringgit, in this case.

Production happens at EVE’s massive 60GWh super plant, churning out 1.5 cells per second and shipping over 40 containers daily. Quality control is insanely precise—defect rates at the parts-per-billion level.

For KLIA, this means uninterrupted operations, especially during Malaysia’s unpredictable weather patterns. The system has already proven itself with over 8 months of stable operation. Airport officials are sleeping better. Passengers probably haven’t noticed a thing. That’s the point.
